With the proper training, DAQ inspectors can determine whether too much of a harmful contaminant is being released into the surrounding air by observing a plume of smoke billowing from a smoke stack. To receive that training, they attend “Smoke School.”
Participants heard panelists speak on a variety of issues such as economic development opportunities within sustainable agriculture, Kentucky’s business outlook, the potential of brownfield redevelopment, and renewable energy procurement.
Each year, members of the Kentucky Division of Forestry’s wildland firefighter team volunteer to fight fires in various parts of the U.S., outside of Kentucky’s fire seasons, when wildfires overwhelm local resources. Recently, 23 firefighters deployed to Texas to assist with wildfire suppression.
